The Declaration of Peace Week of Nonviolent Action across the United States and in Washington, DC.

The Declaration of Peace (http://declarationofpeace.org) announces a Week of  Nonviolent Actions September 21-28 in Washington, D.C. and across the United States.  If a concrete and rapid plan for an end to the US war in Iraq has not been established and activated by the deadline of September 21 (The International Day of Peace) people across the US will declare peace by engaging in any or all of the following actions:

Thursday, September 21: The Declaration of Peace week begins in Washington, DC with a national press event highlighting the activities planned across the country September 21-28.  This will be followed by a focused nonviolent civil disobedience action with key voices from various communities at the US Capitol to dramatize the launch and to focus the call for Congress to act. That evening, across the US and around the world, candlelight vigils will take place.

Friday, September 22: Across the US, individuals and groups will participate in nonviolent actions,
including legal demonstrations and nonviolent civil disobedience at District Congressional offices accompanied by extensive local media work.

Saturday & Sunday, September 23-24:
Local actions will take place across the US calling for the end of the war and for Congress to act, such as marches, festivals, rallies and local media outreach. In Washington, DC on Sunday, an event will be held (to be determined) on the Mall.

Monday, September 25: Across the US, individuals and groups will participate in nonviolent actions,
including legal demonstrations and nonviolent civil disobedience at District Congressional offices with locally organized media outreach.  In Washington, DC nonviolence trainings and a pre-action meeting will be held in preparation for the Tuesday and Wednesday actions at the US Capitol.

Tuesday & Wednesday, September 26-27: Mass nonviolent civil disobedience and legal protest will take place at the US Capitol.

Thursday, September 28: If a comprehensive plan for an end to the war in Iraq is not established by this date, a national press event will be held to announce next steps in the campaign to create and activate this plan.
